Lowcountry Talent Contest — Judging Criteria
The following published scoring criteria apply to Foskey Heating & Air’s Lowcountry Talent Contest.
Jingle Judging
The judges will be the Owners of Foskey Heating & Air, Mike and Christine Foskey. Every eligible jingle will be evaluated under the following criteria. Judges will score each criterion from 0 to 10, with 0 the lowest and 10 the highest. The weighted total is calculated on a 100-point scale. If there are multiple judges, their weighted totals will be averaged.
| Jingle criterion | Weight | Scoring guidance |
|---|---|---|
| Memorability and suitability | 30% | Whether the jingle is memorable and suitable for Foskey’s brand and services under the published content requirements |
| Clarity and Communication | 30% | Whether the words and business message are understandable and effectively communicated |
| Musical Quality | 25% | Melody, rhythm, singability, and overall musical effectiveness |
| Creativity and originality | 15% | Distinctiveness and originality of the entrant’s human-created contribution |
| Total | 100% |
The minimum qualifying jingle score is 80 points out of 100. If at least one eligible jingle reaches that minimum, the highest-scoring qualifying jingle is the prospective winner, subject to tie-breaking and verification.
Jingle ties will be resolved by an assessment, in the form of a quiz, based solely on information listed on Foskey Heating & Air’s website about its Story, Services, Service Area, and Blog/News. No prize splitting or additional prize is authorized unless expressly stated in the completed Rules before launch.
Paragraph Fallback Judging
If no eligible jingle reaches the published minimum qualifying score, the judges will evaluate the paragraphs submitted with eligible entries. A low jingle score alone does not disqualify an otherwise compliant entry from paragraph judging.
| Paragraph criterion | Weight | Scoring guidance |
|---|---|---|
| Memorability and Relevance | 30% | Whether the paragraph makes a lasting impression, meaningfully addresses the prompt, and demonstrates a genuine connection to the South Carolina Lowcountry. |
| Clarity and Communication | 30% | Whether the entrant clearly communicates their thoughts, personal experiences, and how growing up in the Lowcountry has influenced who they are. |
| Writing Quality and Effectiveness | 25% | Organization, sentence structure, word choice, readability, and overall effectiveness in communicating a compelling personal reflection. |
| Creativity and Originality | 15% | Distinctiveness of the entrant’s perspective, authentic personal expression, and originality of the entrant’s human-created contribution. |
| Total | 100% |
